Task 2 M1: Discuss how an operating system can be viewed as an event driven program.

Task 2 M1: Discuss how an operating system can be viewed as an event driven program.

Most modern system's use event driven programming, these applications make it easier for the user to explore their computer more freely, without the need for command prompts and other complications.

To begin with in the lower left hand-side of the screen the user has a 'start' button. This particular button is used to access all the other parts of the computer. When 'start' is clicked an action takes place and several buttons are displayed for the user to choose from.

Another example of how an operating system can be viewed as an event driven program is; the drag and drop characteristics on the monitor. For example, the recycle bin located usually on the left hand side of the home screen would be found with other icons such as 'My Documents'. The user can rearrange icons by selecting them, holding it and dragging it to the chosen area. Drag and drop usually occurs when the user wants to move something or place something inside of something else.

An operating system can also be viewed as an event driven program because files can be saved onto a disk. After completing a document the user may want to save their work for further use, therefore an event would then take place. The event in this case would be to save the file onto another removable storage device. The 'save' button would have to be clicked in order for this event to take place.
